 Who is Mr. Alphonsius ATEGHA? Alphonsius Ategha is a graduate of the Advanced School of Translators and Interpreters, (ASTI) University of Buea in the South West Region of Cameroon. He holds an M.A in translation in addition to his bilingual (French / English) B.A obtained from the University of Yaounde 1.
He has recently completed an international subtitling course with Subtitling Worldwide - Haarlem, The Netherlands.
Mr. Ategha has years of rich experience in the fields of translation and interpretation, working with renown companies like MTN, The Cameroon Academy of Sciences, E.P.I, Guinness S.A Cameroon and a lot more, but most of all he co-founded Communication Facilitators in November 2005.
Communication Facilitators is a Subtitling, Translation, and Interpretation Firm set up by professional subtitlers, translators and interpreters to promote high-quality subtitling/translation/interpretation and to maintain standards of professionalism within the trade.

In this modern Information and Communication Technology era, the screen (Computer, TV, or Cinema screen) plays a major role in entertainment, information, education, and training and channels some pretty direct implications in our daily lives.
“Sometimes because the so-called subtitler has misunderstood one line, the context of subsequent lines - or even a large chunk of the film - is changed in order to make it flow. So the poor audience ends up watching another film with the script written by the hack -subtitler.”
The situation is even worse when the programme is poorly dubbed. The audience is led astray since it does not hear the original sound track.
Subtitling is a challenging art and science requiring a special knack. You can rest assured that our highly-trained subtitlers will strive to compose subtitles (streams of text that appear at the bottom of the screen when something is being said) that comply with the tone, the atmosphere, the look, and the rhythm of the audiovisual programme being translated.
Besides, with an ever-growing number of agreements between countries and due to which a greater number of international organisations, Non-governmental Organisations (NGOs), Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs), Small and Medium-sized Industries (SMIs), people of varying languages and cultures are called upon to interact on literary, social, economic, political, legal, technical, scientific, cultural, and environmental issues. Communication Facilitators bridges the linguistic and cultural barriers to enable these organisations and people to communicate effectively.
Communication Facilitators works in close collaboration with professional and seasoned Subtitlers, Translators, and Interpreters most of whom are members of the Association of Professional Translators and Interpreters of Cameroon (APTIC). They are either free lance or civil servants in the Cameroon Public Service.
Some of its clients include the Cameroon Science Academy, Innova Consulting – expert/consultancy group based in the United States of America, MTNC – Mobile Telephone Network Cameroon, Guinness Cameroon amongst others.
Their working languages: French, English, Pidgin English (for Subtitling), Spanish, German, Portuguese, Italian. Very soon, they shall work from and into Arabic and Chinese. |

Many people do not know how important and complex the art of providing subtitles for a movie is. Sometimes we watch a movie an criticise the subtitles or curse the movie for not having X and Y language subtitles. Come to think of it, technology makes it look so easy: After buying a movie (and probably a pirated copy at a cheap price for that matter) you insert your DVD into the player, grab your remote controller, sit back and start switching from one language subtitle to another cursing the languages present that you don't want and criticising those you want for not being clear enough, etc. Hardly do we for one moment ask to know how those subtitles in various languages got there for us to choose so easily.
